...When your pet is lost;

1). Be prepared with a thorough description of your pet including the details of where, when and how your pet was lost. Provide photo if possible.
Contact animal control. This is done by contacting the Kanab Police Department dispatch at 435-644-2349. Contact shelters in your community and surrounding ares. Call ALL of the shelters, not just one. Kane Humane can be reached at 435-644-5370.

2). Make flyers (Kane Humane can help you if needed) with your pets photo and be sure to post one around the area where your pet was last seen. Kane Humane will also help distribute flyers. This is a free service to the public. The sooner you get the information about your lost pet out to the public, the better your chances will be of getting him or her back.

3). Don’t loose faith that your pet and you will be reunited. We have all seen and heard of the stories about dogs (and even cats) returning to their owners months, even years, after they have disappeared. Most of these stories had one important fact in common - the pet had been microchipped. We can not stress enough the importance of your pet having identification. A collar with a name tag as well as an implanted microchip are the best insurance your pet can have.

...When you find an animal;

1). Stray and free-roaming animals found with-in town or city limits must be reported to Animal Control. This is done by contacting the Kanab Police Department dispatch at 435-644-2349. If you feel the animal is in imminent danger you may offer to keep the animal at your residence until the owner can be found, but you must inform the police department (Animal Control) of your intention. Make sure that you give correct contact information. Remember, it is most likely that this animal belongs to someone, and you do not want your “rescue” to be misconstrued as a “theft”.

2). If you determine that the animal might have life threatening injuries, report the situation to Animal Control as well as the Best Friends Clinic at 435-644-2001 ext. 210

3). If the animal is in Kane County, contact Kane Humane Project at 435-644-5370
