How could anyone push a puppy from a car and drive off leaving it alone along the highway in a remote area? That’s exactly what happened to the little guy pictured here. The incident happened in an area near the Paria Wilderness and was witnessed by a couple traveling to California. Thankfully they picked him up and took him to the BLM office in Kanab. They in turn called Kane Humane. The puppy was given the name “Hiway” and the search began to find him a foster home. Our beloved dog foster mom, Angie, agreed to take him even though she’d just recently completed fostering Dustin and has two dogs of her own. You’re an angel Angie!

How quickly Hiway’s fate turned from nightmare to dream come true. A woman named Faithe was visiting Angie from out of town and it was love at first sight! Hiway’s next road trip will be a much kinder one and will end with his arrival at his new forever home with Faithe in New Orleans, and a new name, “Waylan”! We couldn’t ask for a happier, more tail wagging ending to what started out as such a tragic story.

Kane Humane is pleased to have been able to help Hiway (Waylan) along his journey in life. We would not be able to accomplish these loving deeds if it was not for Kane Humane’s volunteers and Foster home providers. Thank you all. If you can help foster an animal or volunteer, please contact us so we can continue to post great stories like this one, alternatively, if you are able to, please make a donation to Kane Humane so that we can continue to provide these great services to and for the animals!
